Tottenham handed green signal to table Hayden Hackney transfer bid

Tottenham are one of a number of Premier League clubs to have been linked with Middlesbrough gem Hayden Hackney this summer.

The 23-year-old appears keen on leaving Middlesbrough before the transfer window closes, amid increasing interest from Premier League sides.

The English midfielder has been at the Riverside Stadium since he was 9, but his time there may now come to an end.

Tottenham put on red alert as Hackney turns down Ipswich Town

Tottenham will surely be on red alert as Hackney rejected a move to Ipswich Town despite a £20million bid being accepted.

According to the Northern Echo (2 August), after discussions in Suffolk, the midfield declined the transfer, even with a significant wage hike offered.

He informed Middlesbrough of his decision, halting talks with Ipswich.

As a Middlesbrough native and England U21 international, Hackney’s choice to stay aligns with the club’s desire to retain him.

However, a move to Tottenham does tempt Hackney, so things may now develop on that front.

Spurs must now table bid for Hackney

Hackney’s rejection of Ipswich Town presents a prime opportunity for Spurs to pursue the 23-year-old midfielder.

Tottenham are actively seeking a commanding midfielder to bolster their squad under Thomas Frank and he appears to be ready for the step up to the Premier League.

His ability to dictate play and carry the ball under pressure aligns with Tottenham’s need for a dynamic, ball-playing midfielder to complement Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

At £20million, Hackney represents a cost-effective option compared to pricier targets, offering long-term value given his age and homegrown status, which aids Premier League squad quotas.

With no other formal bids and Middlesbrough open to negotiations, the Lilywhites can capitalise on Hackney’s ambition to play at a higher level, especially after rejecting a newly promoted side.

A bid from the North London club should now be on the cards and it remains to be seen if they look to negotiate further.
