Tottenham face further Luka Vuskovic regret after Hamburg scenes

Luka Vuskovic is continuing to shine for Hamburger SV.

The Croatian defender joined the club on loan from Tottenham last summer, and has continued to shift through the gears during his time with the Red Shorts.

Vuskovic was on the scoresheet once again in Hamburg’s 2-1 win against Wolfsburg, after he both won and scored a first-half penalty.

Alongside his fantastic defensive abilities as Merlin Polzin’s side look to secure top-flight safety, the youngster has proven vital in the opposite box – scoring five times in the Bundesliga this term.

With the precarious situation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in mind, alongside Vuskovic’s character shown in Germany, Spurs will feel serious regret as they languish above the relegation zone.

Luka Vuskovic has became a cult hero in Hamburg

Joining the club in 2025, Vuskovic was immediately sent out on loan to Hamburg, following in the footsteps of brother Mario Vuskovic, who is currently serving a ban for doping.

His name immediately turned the defender into a cult hero at the Volksparkstadion, and his performances on the pitch have furthered this connection.

During Saturday’s win against Wolfsburg, the defender netted his fifth goal of the season after winning a first-half penalty.

As described by German football expert Seb Stafford-Bloor, it has absolutely been coming, with defenders across the division failing to cope with the Croatian’s physical attributes.

His record proved similar during his final season with Belgian Pro League outfit KVC Westerlo, where he found the back of the net seven times in the league, while providing three assists.

As a young defender, he is not quite the finished article, but he possesses a raw talent in the backline that is completely unique in the Bundesliga.

While at the other end, he is a menace, and someone who could walk into countless sides across Europe.

Tottenham are missing a player with Vuskovic’s character

Vuskovic is adored by the HSV faithful.

Imperious at the back following the club’s promotion back to the Bundesliga, he has received praise across the division, while his stunning goal in the Nordderby against Werder Bremen saw the level of adoration fly through the roof.

With Spurs’ current predicament in mind, they are missing someone with not just the raw ability of Vuskovic, but the character.

Almost singlehandedly, the Croatian has placed the survival hopes of a European giant on his shoulders, and has defied expectations week in and week out.

What makes this more remarkable is the fact that he is just 19.

Spurs need to hope that they are playing Premier League football next term, or their chances of keeping Vuskovic will take a massive hit.
