Tottenham could be set for Micky van de Ven upgrade in January as transfer leaders revealed

Tottenham could be set to land themselves an eye-catching upgrade on Micky van de Ven in the January transfer window.

The Netherlands international has developed into one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs since his move from Wolfsburg back in 2023, and that has attracted interest in recent weeks.

Real Madrid are keen on Van de Ven, and they view him as an ideal profile to step into their backline in the coming months.

News of the interest from the superclub will undoubtedly have concerned Thomas Frank and Co. lately, but they shouldn’t worry, as the Lilywhites are one of the leaders in the race to sign a man who would provide an instant upgrade.

Tottenham among ‘leading contenders’ for Marc Guehi

Tottenham showed an interest in Marc Guehi earlier in the summer, before Liverpool raced ahead to become the main candidates to secure his signature.

The Reds came close to signing the England international on several occasions, but were ultimately unable to get a deal over the line, leaving the player in an awkward situation.

Guehi is continuing to turn in strong performances for Crystal Palace, but the interest in him looks unlikely to cease any time soon.

Spurs are now understood to be among the “leading contenders” to sign the centre-back, according to CaughtOffside.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and both Barcelona and Real Madrid are thought to be weighing up bids for him this winter, while Liverpool’s interest is still strong.

As a result, a deal is unlikely to come easily for the North Londoners, but if they could pull it off, then there is no doubt that it would be an exceptional signing.

Marc Guehi is outperforming Micky van de Ven

Van de Ven has been a key performer for Tottenham, but he is similar to his defensive partner Cristian Romero in that he is prone to the odd lapse in concentration.

Spurs won’t want to lose him this winter, but if they could land Guehi, then they would quickly forget all about Van de Ven.

The Palace star is outperforming the Lilywhites man in almost every defensive metric so far this term, and he is an irreplaceable part of the Eagles side that is now 18 games unbeaten in all competitions.

For large parts of the summer, it felt as though it was inevitable that Guehi would end up as a Liverpool player, but with Spurs now having seemingly gained ground in the race, the N17 faithful have reason to dream once again.
