Tottenham can say goodbye to Romero after what Spurs youth sensation has done

Tottenham appear to already have a long-term replacement for Cristian Romero.

It looks set to be a summer of change in North London, with Daniel Levy expected to sack Ange Postecoglou.

In addition, there are likely to be a host of changes behind the scenes too, with Vinai Venkatesham set to take over as Tottenham Chief Executive Officer, while Scott Munn is expected to move on.

However, what supporters will be most concerned about is the players, and it looks as though there could be plenty of changes in that department too.

As time goes by, it is looking increasingly likely that Romero will leave Tottenham. However, it doesn’t look as though Spurs will need to search very hard to find a long-term replacement for the centre-back.

Junai Byfield scores again for Tottenham Under-18s

As reported by Matt Law (28 April), a well-placed source has confirmed to Telegraph Sport that Tottenham will most likely be forced to sell to buy this summer, with a high-profile player such as Romero likely to be moved on.

However, it seems as though Byfield could be a suitable long-term replacement.

The centre-back scored his second goal in as many games for Spurs’ Under-18s as they drew 4-4 with Arsenal’s Under-18s in the Under-18 Premier League South on Tuesday (29 April).

Byfield is one of Spurs’ most exciting young talents, and at the age of 16 has already trained with the Tottenham first team.

Tottenham defence in safe hands

While Byfield might not be ready for first-team football next season, or even the season after, Tottenham can say goodbye to Romero with the knowledge that they have a very exciting prospect on their hands.

In addition to Byfield, Tottenham also have players such as Alfie Dorrington and Ashley Phillips to return from loan, while Luka Vušković will join the Lilywhites this summer.

As a result, Spurs’ defence is in safe hands for the next five years, with or without Romero.
