Romero ‘exit already sealed’ as well-placed source issues huge Tottenham update

Cristian Romero’s near-four-year stay with Tottenham looks set to come to an end this summer.

It has been a disappointing season for Tottenham, who suffered their 19th Premier League defeat of the season on Sunday (27 April) as Liverpool thrashed Ange Postecoglou’s side 5-1 at Anfield to clinch the Premier League title.

Therefore, regardless of whether or not Tottenham win the UEFA Europa League, Postecoglou is expected to be sacked.

However, it seems as though the Australian isn’t the only man on his way out of Tottenham.

Tottenham need to sell to generate transfer funds this summer

As reported by Matt Law (28 April), based on Spurs’ recent financial results, which aren’t likely to have made Daniel Levy any more popular, the North London club’s net transfer debt stands at £279.3million.

Therefore, one star player at Tottenham might need to be sold to generate transfer funds.

A well-placed source has confirmed to Telegraph Sport that Tottenham will most likely be forced to sell to buy this summer, which raises question marks over the likes of Romero, Richarlison and Yves Bissouma.

However, of all those players, Romero is likely to be the high-profile exit.

Romero exit ‘now inevitable’ at Tottenham

If Spurs need to sell a high-profile player, Romero will surely be at the top of that list.

The likes of Richarlison and Bissouma aren’t likely to generate big money, with Tottenham expected to accept a cut-price deal for the former.

However, Romero has just two years left on his contract and doesn’t appear willing to sign a new deal. In addition, the centre-back could generate a high fee, with Atletico Madrid interested.

Therefore, it looks as though Romero’s exit is now inevitable at Tottenham, which means a replacement will need to be signed.
