Postecoglou sack: ‘Unique’ Tottenham case ‘to cost Ange his job’

Tottenham have not been fortunate in any of the competitions they’ve competed in this season.

And as a result of that, fans are calling for the heads of Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy in almost every game that’s played.

Of course, the sheer number of injuries that Spurs have had to contend with this season needs to be taken into account, and it’s unclear whether things are going to get any better.

Postecoglou and his men are set to travel to Germany and face Hoffenheim in a Europa League clash on Thursday however, they’re set to be without 14 of their first-team squad due to a plethora of reasons.

Speaking to the media before the Europa League tie in quotes relayed by the print edition of the Daily Mail (23 January, page 72), the Australian shared his thoughts on the “unique” situation his team are in.

“People may look at us and think it’s a unique case,” he said. “It’s a very extreme case for sure, we’ve been hit hardest but I think it’s becoming more prevalent.

“I don’t think it will be as uncommon as people think as we move along.”

Tottenham could miss out on Europa League top eight

Along with the number of players who are out injured, the fact that Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon, Antonin Kinsky and Yang Min-hyeok are all ineligible to take part is another cause for concern that could end up costing Ange his job.

In addition to the Australian losing his job, if they don’t manage to defeat Hoffenheim on Thursday, Spurs could end up missing out on the top-eight spots in the Europa League stage which would be far from ideal as it would mean that they’d have to play even more games.

Indeed, Spurs are one of the worst-affected teams in terms of injuries and it’s likely one of the main reasons they are where they are where they are in the Premier League.

As aforementioned, the extra games that Postecoglou men would have to play could be more than detrimental for the team and cause even more injuries.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for Tottenham but at the moment, it’s not looking all that great for Postecoglou and his men.
