Postecoglou baffles with Kevin Danso call —Tottenham confirmed XI v Aston Villa
Ange Postecoglou has arguably made an error as Tottenham face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Friday.
Villa Park hosts Spurs on 16 May, and the Australian manager must get back to winning ways.
The North London outfit lost 2-0 to Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace at home on 11 May, making it 20 league losses for them.
Kevin Danso started against the Eagles, and now the former Celtic boss has decided whether to include him against Unai Emery’s team.

Danso in Tottenham starting lineup v Aston Villa
Spurs have confirmed their starting lineup on X (16 May), with Postecoglou making three changes after the loss to Palace.
Sergio Reguilon replaces Pedro Porro in the backline, and Rodrigo Bentancur has been dropped to the bench.
Archie Gray and Pape Matar Sarr continue in the middle of the park, but Postecoglou has included Mikey Moore in the team, and it will be interesting to see where he plays.
Dejan Kulusevski is absent for Spurs after undergoing surgery, with Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel and Son Heung-min starting up front, but the Asutralian manager may have some surprises planned in the forward line.
Danso and Ben Davies partnership has let Spurs down
Postecoglou seems to be fully focused on the Europa League, which isn’t surprising considering they sit 17th in the Premier League.
The Australian manager has prioritised the European competition at the detriment of their form in the English top flight.
Danso has struggled since signing for Spurs in the winter transfer window, and was once again poor against Glasner’s team, being dribbled past once and failing to win the one tackle he attempted, as per FotMob.
The 26-year-old Tottenham defender was also dispossessed once and was sloppy with his long passes, with only 20 per cent accuracy.
Competition | Appearances |
Premier League | 8 |
Europa League | 2 |
FA Cup | 1 |
Carabao Cup | 1 |
Of the centre-back’s five attempted long balls, only one was successful, as he kept on giving the ball away to the Eagles, as Eberechi Eze scored a brace.
While it’s understandable to some extent for Postecoglou to stick with the Austria international, the fans who watch their team play every week are baffled to see things continue to get worse.
The Europa League should undoubtedly be the Australian manager’s priority, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven playing crucial roles, but there’s no reason the North Londoners can’t be competitive in two competitions.
Travelling supporters might as well have stayed at home against Villa, as it looks like Spurs are in for another disappointing result.
