Mohammed Kudus signs – Which attacker Frank could axe at Tottenham

Thomas Frank will have to demote one first-team attacker to make room for Tottenham target Mohammed Kudus this summer.

Daniel Levy is determined to win the Premier League and UEFA Champions League within the next couple of seasons.

As a result, the 63-year-old is making plenty of changes at Tottenham, with Frank’s appointment being the biggest one. However, the Dane will need reinforcements to make things happen, and Kudus has been identified as a potential signing.

Frank to axe Brennan Johnson for Kudus

As reported by The Standard (20 June), Kudus’ release clause is set at £85million, although this is only active for the first 10 days of July.

Tottenham are expected to test the waters with a £50m bid [The Guardian], although ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested an offer of at least £70m will be needed for West Ham to sell Kudus.

However, should Spurs eventually agree a fee and complete the deal, Brennan Johnson could get caught in the crossfire after only recently finding his footing in North London.

Johnson ended last season as Tottenham’s top scorer and scored the winner in the UEFA Europa League final. As a result, Spurs supporters will be curious to see how the Welshman performs under Frank, but that could be curbed with the arrival of Kudus.

While the Ghanaian can play across the frontline, he is particularly dangerous on the right wing. Indeed, Kudus is a high-output winger who made headlines for his performances during the 2023/24 season.

But what most appeals about the 24-year-old is his all-around game. He is an efficient dribbler with good link-up and hold-up play and can create for his teammates.

Meanwhile, one of Johnson’s biggest criticisms has been his inability to consistently take his man on. His movement and positioning inside the box are excellent, but he does not offer much outside of that.

Therefore, Frank could be keen to add a more versatile forward to the mix at the expense of Johnson.

Tottenham need to complete the Kudus deal

Kudus could be a massive boost in Spurs’ Champions League campaign next season.

While the forward struggled to hit his best form last season, he is a unique talent who could become great under the right manager. Frank has shown he can adapt to different circumstances and systems, which could help Kudus to develop.

But the winger is a highly sought-after prize this summer, and Spurs will need to ramp up their efforts to secure his signing.
