Micky van de Ven exit on the cards at Tottenham ‘serious candidate’ emerges to seal defender transfer

Tottenham clearly still have fears about losing Micky van de Ven in the January transfer window.

The Netherlands international is quickly developing into one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs, and that has naturally attracted prying eyes from elsewhere in recent weeks.

Van de Ven’s form for Tottenham has seen him linked with Real Madrid of late, with the Spanish giants understood to view him as an appealing profile to play at the heart of their defence.

Their interest had seemingly cooled a little, but fears of a potential departure in N17 must surely now be growing following this development in the market.

Tottenham’s Mario Gila interest suggests Micky Van de Ven concerns

Tottenham were told to value Van de Ven at around £90million to try and ward off the interest from the Spanish capital, and while that valuation would provide them with plenty of security, it is clear that there are still concerns.

The Lilywhites have now emerged as a “serious candidate” to complete the signing of Lazio centre-back Mario Gila, according to CaughtOffside.

The 25-year-old is under contract in Rome until the summer of 2027, and as such, Maurizio Sarri’s side have placed a valuation of around £39m-£43m on his head.

Spurs may be positioning themselves as the likely suitor, but there is also interest from the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace and Brighton, with the latter understood to have made contact with Gila’s camp in the summer.

With Radu Dragusin drawing ever closer to a return to action, and the likes of Kevin Danso and Ben Davies on hand to provide cover, there is little need for the N17 outfit to eye reinforcements.

As a result, it is a fair assumption that there must be a genuine possibility that one of the established pairing of Van de Ven and Cristian Romero could depart in January, with the former the more likely candidate.

Mario Gila would be a good option for Tottenham

Gila would be a good option for Tottenham to add to their defensive ranks, given the experience that he has built up in Serie A over the years.

The Spanish star has now played over 60 games in the Italian top flight, having previously come through the esteemed youth academy at Real Madrid.

He has started all six of Lazio’s league games so far this term, and is now surely at the stage where he is ready to test himself in the Premier League.

At 25, Gila is entering the prime of his career, and with so many potential suitors ready to make a move for him in England, it is surely only a matter of time before a move is sealed.

Thomas Frank and Co. won’t want to lose Van de Ven, but it would certainly soften the blow if they could land Gila as his replacement.
