Levy ‘to delay Ange Postecoglou sack at Tottenham’ after Fabrizio Romano update

Ange Postecoglou is under massive pressure at Tottenham, but Daniel Levy may have no choice but to keep him beyond this season.

Spurs’ Premier League prospects under the Australian manager in the current campaign look abysmal as they sit 15th in the table.

The Europa League seems to be the former Celtic boss’ only hope of keeping his job in N17, with a trip to Deutsche Bank Park to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of the quarter-finals pivotal.

Levy hasn’t been shy about firing head coaches before, but there seems to be reluctance among the North London outfit’s hierarchy to change managers this time around.

Postecoglou let down by Levy at Tottenham

Postecoglou was brought to Spurs with an ambitious project in mind after Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte’s failures in N17.

The Australian manager excited the Lilywhites faithful with his style of play and philosophy last season, but he’s been caught out in the Premier League in recent months.

While the former Celtic boss doesn’t appear to have a different plan when things are going against the North London outfit, the players at his disposal aren’t good enough.

In the winter transfer window, Levy should’ve backed the 59-year-old head coach, but left it too late to reinforce the squad, and supporters have rightfully turned against the co-chairman.

Spurs to keep Postecoglou if Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola are out of reach

Andoni Iraola has been linked with Spurs, but Bournemouth have no intention of letting their manager go next summer.

The Spanish head coach has enjoyed a fruitful spell at the Cherries and has caught many people’s attention as he aims to guide them to a European spot in the Premier League this season.

Marco Silva is also on Levy’s radar, but whether the North London outfit can prise him away from Fulham remains to be seen.

Tottenham may have their work cut out in search of Postecoglou’s replacement, as Bournemouth and the Cottagers are fighting hard to keep their respective managers.

Fabrizio Romano wrote in GiveMeSport (16 April): “I’d keep an eye again on Silva, same as Iraola, but it’s important to confirm how Bournemouth and Fulham are fighting to keep their coaches.”

It feels like Spurs will fail to convince Iraola or Silva and may have to move on to other managerial targets.

Levy has panicked in previous years and has hired head coaches unsuitable for the North London outfit, and may want to avoid that.

Postecoglou should stay at the Lilywhites and be given another chance if they fail to replace him with their preferred choice.

The hierarchy at Spurs could potentially give the Australian manager the start of next season to prove himself before finally pulling the plug.
