Levy now has every right to sack Postecoglou, Tottenham boss could foil £50m deal

Daniel Levy could not be faulted for immediately sacking Ange Postecoglou as the Tottenham manager.

Spurs are having one of their worst seasons in recent years, having already lost 16 games in the Premier League, which is worse than their record in the 2008-09 campaign.

Tottenham, who have also missed out on both domestic cup competitions, risk being without Champions League football next season, unless they pull off a miracle in the UEFA Europa League.

Winning the Europa League is the North London giants’ only hope of winning a trophy and qualifying for the elite European competition, but that too is a major doubt after drawing 1-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt at home in the first leg of the quarter-final tie.

There have been many shouts for Postecoglou to be sacked in recent weeks, but it appears Levy is prepared to wait until the end of the season to make a decision.

Postecoglou costing Levy in transfers

It is understandable why Levy is waiting until the summer to decide on Postecoglou’s future, as appointing an interim manager now is unlikely to benefit the team.

However, not many would blame the Tottenham chairman if he pulled the plug on the Greek-Australian manager right now, as he has already put him in a difficult position ahead of the summer.

Losing 16 of the 31 league games is unacceptable for a Spurs manager, and the former Celtic boss is lucky that he is still at the helm in North London.

Furthermore, the possibility of missing out on Champions League football is already affecting Spurs in the transfer market.

It is worth noting that Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in signing Dean Huijsen, who has a £50million release clause at Bournemouth.

David Ornstein reported via The Athletic website on Thursday (10 April) that they met the defender’s representatives in the last week.

However, the Lilywhites are lagging behind in the race to sign the Spain international, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool considered the leading contenders.

Tottenham must sack Postecoglou

It is hard to see Tottenham beat the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool to Huijsen’s signature, especially if they miss out on Champions League football, and there is no one else to blame but Postecoglou.

Levy risks embarrassing himself in more transfer pursuits at this rate, and that is why he should consider firing the 59-year-old with immediate effect.

Rangers appear to be benefitting from hiring a caretaker manager capable of inspiring his players in Barry Ferguson, who has taken them to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Spurs could pull off a similar move by putting Ryan Mason in charge until the end of the season.
