Levy ‘must be joking’ at Sancho news coming out of Man United

Tottenham will aim to make some higher-calibre signings this summer to prepare themselves for the Champions League, but news regarding Jadon Sancho comes as a surprise.

Thomas Frank looks set to take charge of the Lilywhites this summer, and would like some quality additions to help improve their domestic fortunes.

Tottenham have been linked with Bryan Mbeumo as a result, and a winger could be targeted if Son Heung-min departs.

However, it has now been reported that Man United outcast Sancho is being tracked by Spurs, and this would be a truly baffling signing if it happens.

Tottenham tracking Sancho after Chelsea disaster

Sancho was once regarded as one of England’s biggest talents, but has had a disastrous time in the Premier League with Manchester United and Chelsea.

The winger spent the season on loan at Chelsea, but was so unimpressive that they paid a £5million penalty fee to send him back to United.

The Sun (11 June) have now reported that Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are monitoring Sancho’s availability with regard to a move, despite his failure to hit his best form since leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Daniel Levy has come under fire for his decision to sack Ange Postecoglou in the name of progress, but this would be a signing which sums up his lack of ambition.

Tottenham should not consider Sancho move

Tottenham’s squad rebuild should consist of a mixture of signing players who are ready to make a positive impact on the first team, and top-quality young talents in the mould of Lucas Bergvall.

Sancho fits into neither category. The 25-year-old has been out of form and confidence for some time, and is unlikely to hit the ground running wherever he goes.

Spurs do have several wingers on their books already, and could even bring back Manor Solomon after his impressive loan spell at Leeds United.

Sancho would arrive as another body, but despite his high wage, would not be a signing who can raise Tottenham’s level to improve domestically and compete in the Champions League, and Levy should simply steer clear of such a risky signing.
