Levy ‘could sack Postecoglou before Bodo/Glimt’ as Tottenham precedent set

Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham is hanging by a thread as the Lilywhites fell to a 19th defeat of the season on Sunday.

The boss has remained in a job as Tottenham look towards a Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt – the only thing left to play for this season.

However, a 5-1 loss at the hands of Premier League champions Liverpool has left further questions being asked about how much Daniel Levy can put up with before making a change.

Levy has been in a similar Tottenham position before

Although all eyes are on Postecoglou as Tottenham supporters seek a change, Levy has got himself into another sticky position in north London.

While on paper he has tried all sorts of different managerial appointments, seemingly everyone struggles at Spurs, suggesting there are bigger problems to be addressed before progress can be achieved.

That being said, it has been widely reported that European action is the only thing keeping Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium currently.

However, with Tottenham sitting 16th in the Premier League table, it seems increasingly likely that the boss will be sacked by the end of the season, regardless of whether his side is successful in Europe.

Although Sunday’s defeat was at the hands of the side that has become champions of the top flight, another thrashing has left further anger over the managerial situation.

Richard Keys mooted what may be next for the Lilywhites as he said live on beIN Sports (28 April): “He doesn’t like answering questions, Daniel [Levy], does he?

“What he did the week of the EFL Cup final in sacking Jose Mourinho. That was mind-boggling. I’ve never known anything like that.”

Postecoglou is not safe at Tottenham

When Mourinho was sacked at Tottenham back in 2021, it was on the back of a 2-2 draw against Everton, a 10th league defeat of the campaign.

The chief was heavily criticised at the time for sacking the manager just six days before an EFL Cup final, knocking the momentum ahead of a big game.

With that in mind, it does leave questions over how safe the current boss actually is, as his side continues to suffer consecutive defeats in the Premier League.

The first leg of the game against Bodo/Glimt is up next for Tottenham, followed by a Premier League clash against fellow struggling side West Ham.

Tottenham v West Ham could be a big game.

If Graham Potter’s men were to win that game, they would go above Tottenham in the table, making Spurs the last club above the relegation zone.

It’s understandable why Europa League form is being taken into consideration, but Levy isn’t afraid to make big calls, even in anticipation of massive games.
