James Maddison ‘to fail medicals’ with Tottenham exit collapse on cards
James Maddison could be in for a difficult summer after picking up yet another injury at Tottenham.
The Englishman has had an up-and-down season in North London but looked set to have a telling impact in the Europa League run-in.
Against Bodo/Glimt, the 28-year-old was forced off after 65 minutes through injury as Ange Postecoglou’s side ran out as 3-1 winners.
Now, Spurs are awaiting the second leg and the final three Premier League games ahead of the summer, which could spell danger for Maddison in N17.

Maddison injury to scupper Tottenham transfer plans
There was so much expectation from the attacking midfielder when he signed from Leicester City back in 2023, but he has largely failed to do so.
With that being said, a parting of the ways could make sense for both parties in the summer if a bid were to come in.
This has seen Maddison linked with a move away to Manchester City [Fichajes.net, 12 April], as the summer window looms in North London.
That could now be in jeopardy after the former England international was taken off against Bodo/Glimt in what could be a season-ending injury.
Speaking to Tottenham News, Bryan King suggested that the midfielder could be ruled out for as long as four months with this issue.
He said: “This is a big blow for Maddison and Tottenham. Until we know exactly what the issue is, we don’t know exactly how long it will take him to recover. I finished my career with a bad knee. However, the medical treatment is a lot better these days.
“If it is a bad knee injury, Maddison could be out for three or four months. Therefore, I’d imagine any holiday plans will be shelved, and he could be spending the summer rehabilitating.”
With that in mind, Spurs could be in trouble with any proposed outbound transfers as the number 10 is likely to fail any medicals with new clubs.

Maddison injury ends exit transfer hope at Tottenham
There is no doubt that the ex-Norwich City man has qualities which could make him extremely useful to many Premier League sides moving forward.
Things just haven’t worked out with Spurs, but that can be said of many recent signings who have struggled to perform in North London.
Stat | James Maddison |
Appearances | 75 |
Goals | 16 |
Assists | 19 |
This could see Maddison eye a departure alongside the likes of Richarlison, who has been linked with a return to Everton in the summer.
That now appears to be unlikely because there is unlikely to be any club to pay a fair fee for the Englishman with this injury ongoing.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the midfielder in the summer, especially with the Europa League situation rumbling on in N17.
