Djed Spence ‘to fear for Tottenham future’ after new development emerges
Djed Spence has been an unexpected bright light in an otherwise dark campaign at Tottenham.
The 24-year-old looked all but done under Ange Postecoglou, having been sent out to Leeds United and Genoa, with nearly no chance of returning to Hotspur Way permanently.
He now has 17 first-team appearances to his name since the start of the 2024/25 campaign, 11 more than his previous appearances combined, and he has been starring in those matches.
Coming up against the likes of Mo Salah, Morgan Rogers and Bryan Mbeumo, some of the most fearful attackers in the league, Spence has looked steady and confident in defence.
However, the full-back will surely be checking behind his shoulder following a new development at Hotspur Way, with Postecoglou having clear favourites in the squad.
Destiny Udogie injury update emerges
According to Tom Barclay, Destiny Udogie is in contention to face Manchester United on Sunday 16 February after recovering from a hamstring injury.
The 22-year-old has been sidelined since the end of December, having limped off during the 2-2 draw with Wolves, but when he was fully fit, no one was taking his spot in the team.
While this is good news for Postecoglou and Spurs, it might only spell trouble for Spence.
Djed Spence already fearing Tottenham future
There should now be zero doubts over Spence’s abilities at full-back, especially with him playing out of position on the opposite flank, but fans will be desperate for Udogie’s return.
The Italy international is far more productive when surging forward, though his defensive work can slack at times, and Postecoglou is far more likely to send him straight back into the starting XI.

This, of course, would be a massive blow for the current left-back, who has been massively impressing in Udogie’s absence, but he is clearly second-choice for a reason.
Udogie and Pedro Porro starring at the full-back spots has already forced Spence out on loan twice. If he returns to the bench again, Spurs might be looking at cashing in on him, given his displays this term.
Football is a cut-throat sport, and while fans have learned to love the former Nottingham Forest man, it might just be a matter of time before he moves on.
