Dejan Kulusevski’s Tottenham career is over as approach made for ‘extraordinary’ upgrade

Dejan Kulusevski has had a torrid summer at Tottenham.

The Swede has been out with an injury since May due to a knee injury.

Now, it is believed that Kulusevski may not return for Tottenham until February as he continues his recovery.

However, with James Maddison also injuried at Spurs, Thomas Frank has now been forced to dip into the market to try and find a new creative star.

Tottenham eye Xavi Simons as talks begin

Tottenham’s latest target is believed to be Xavi Simons.

The RB Leipzig attacking midfielder picked up 19 goal contributions last season despite the East German side missing out on Europe.

Former manager Marco Rose once labelled Simons “extraordinary” to SABC Sport back on 13th January after Leipzig’s 4-2 win over Werder Bremen.

Now, Tottenham are believed to have begun talks to sign Simons, in what could be bad news for Kulusevski.

According to Fotmob, the Dutch international betters the Swede in multiple stats.

League stats per 90 minutes from the 2024/25 campaignXavi Simons Dejan Kulusevski
Goals 0.420.26
Expected goals 0.210.16
Shots 2.091.77
Assists 0.290.15
Expected assists 0.250.15
Chances created 2.132.45
Successful crosses 0.830.45
Touches in opposition box 3.676.78
Simons beats Kulusevski in the majority of the stats

Simons’ attacking and creative output is far superior, and with the two stars playing in a similar position, Kulusevski may struggle to get back into the starting XI once he returns from injury.

Therefore, Frank could end up selling the Swede if Simon adapts to the Premier League quickly.

Daniel Levy will become a hero if he secures Xavi Simons signing

Daniel Levy has been hugely unpopular at Tottenham this transfer window with how he has dealt with some deals.

Spurs have lost out on multiple signings due to the chairman’s pondering which has now left the North London club scrabbling.

Levy was blasted by Tottenham supporters due to his failure to secure Eberechi Eze.

However, if he is able to sign Simons, he could become a hero at Spurs, with the Dutch international a top-class player.

The addition would no doubt be a statement, now it is up to Levy to ensure that it is secured.
