‘Cristian Romero exit at Tottenham now inevitable’ as new approach planned

Tottenham are looking increasingly likely to have a refresh this summer with the exit of Cristian Romero seemingly inevitable.

With the transfer window now just weeks away, Spurs are already putting their summer plans into motion.

Ange Postecoglou is reportedly being sacked by Tottenham, even if they lift the Europa League.

On top of this, multiple stars have been linked away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in order to completely rebuild the team.

Romero has consistently been linked away from Spurs in recent weeks, and now his departure seems inevitable.

Yann Bisseck to Tottenham rumour spells end for Romero

Romero has been central to the club’s defence for a number of years, but after an underwhelming injury-hit campaign, it’s hard to see his long-term future being at Spurs.

Atletico Madrid have been linked to Romero for around £45million, with some reports stating he could leave within weeks.

And his exit now looks certain after Tottenham’s recent interest in Inter defender Yann Bisseck (TEAMtalk, 24 April).

It is reported that Spurs are gathering information on the Germany international ahead of a potential approach being made.

While there is no certainty that the 24-year-old will sign for Spurs this summer, the fact that the club are eyeing up defensive reinforcements suggests that they are preparing for Romero’s exit.

As a result, it is likely Tottenham will be linked with more centre-backs over the coming weeks as they narrow down their shortlist ready for Romero’s replacement.

Tottenham will be better without Romero

Over the past few weeks, the Argentine has burnt plenty of bridges between himself and the Tottenham fanbase.

Despite being part of the leadership team, Romero has already publicly stated his desire to leave Tottenham for Spain.

On top of this, the defender’s recent performances have been poor. In the 4-2 defeat to Wolves, Tottenham’s backline was shambolic, with Romero making a dreadful mistake for their third goal.

He was then seen heading straight down the tunnel, prompting further criticism from the fans.

Even if Tottenham do win the Europa League, they will be better off without Romero. Spurs need players who want to play for Tottenham and do not disrespect the club in alarming interviews before the season is over.

Hopefully, Romero’s eventual replacement is better off and on the pitch.
