Borussia Dortmund interest proves just how talented Archie Gray is to Tottenham, if they needed it

German giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in Archie Gray.

This comes via TeamTALK, who report that the versatile youngster is of interest to a handful of top clubs across the continent, including Dortmund’s German rivals Bayern Munich.

Gray made the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2024, joining from Leeds United as they missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

The 19-year-old has played 90 minutes in each of Tottenham’s last five Premier League matches, registering an assist in the 2-1 loss to Fulham on Sunday.

With Borussia Dortmund’s interest in particular in mind, Spurs have got a gem within their ranks.

Borussia Dortmund’s youth record could worry Tottenham

There are not many clubs across Europe that can boast similar talent-building records to those of Borussia Dortmund.

Across the last decade, Die Schwarzgelben have proven a vital step in multiple players’ careers when it comes to forming a bridge to the elite level, before an exit pathway is also provided for a player to make the next step.

Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland, Ousmane Dembele and more have all been and gone in the last decade, with those three in particular shining in the Ruhrpott before reaching the top of the game elsewhere.

While Gray has proven himself as a fantastic young talent in the Premier League, he could be looking to make that next step into European football.

Carney Chukwuemeka made the move to the Westfalenstadion last January, before Jobe Bellingham followed in the summer, while there are multiple other examples of young English talents shining at the club – the aforementioned Bellingham, Jamie Gittens and Jadon Sancho.

BVB have proven themselves as fantastic developers of talent, and this could worry Spurs when it comes to potentially losing Gray over the summer.

Especially with the threat of relegation looming so large.

Tottenham have to hold on to impressive Gray – he could shape the rebuild

As of now, Spurs are in a state of disarray.

The Lillywhites sit just outside of the relegation zone in the Premier League, and Tottenham have no signs of turning things around under Igor Tudor, who replaced Thomas Frank last month.

The Lilywhites are in desperate need of a rebuild over the summer, and with the assumption that Spurs are playing top-flight football next year, Gray is someone who should be at the heart of this.

Capable of playing across multiple positions in midfield and in the backline, he is a Swiss Army Knife for any incoming manager, while there is a serious upside given his age.

While Dortmund would be a fantastic place to develop, Gray could see himself become the heart of Tottenham’s revival as they look to reset over the summer.
