Ange Postecoglou was right all along with Tottenham prediction, but it’s not a good thing

The ongoing disaster continues at Tottenham.

Spurs’ 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday leaves the Lilywhites languishing above the relegation zone, while they remain winless since December.

Igor Tudor replaced Thomas Frank last month, with the task of steering the club away from the drop zone. Though, three losses out of three at the helm have made relegation a serious possibility for Tottenham.

Following their Europa League triumph last May, Ange Postecoglou was replaced by the aforementioned Frank as Spurs looked to enter a new era with their trophy hoodoo now a thing of the past.

Postecoglou had become renowned for his big statements when speaking to the media, and his words after the Europa League final have come to fruition – but in the wrong way at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou statement has come to fruition in unfortunate fashion

Spurs finished the 2024-25 season in 17th place after a dismal Premier League season, with Postecoglou dealing with injury woes similar to that of Tudor at this current moment.

But importantly, the Australian brought the club’s trophy drought to an end in sensational fashion, as they overcame Manchester United in the Europa League final on a magical night in Bilbao.

After outlining that he always picks up silverware in his second season, Postecoglou did exactly that, before coming out with an equally ambitious statement following the European triumph.

“I’ll leave you with this,” said Postecoglou at the trophy parade. “All the best TV series, season three is better than season two.”

However, the Australian’s departure would be confirmed not too long after, with Brentford manager Frank stepping in to guide the club into what was tipped to be a new and prosperous era.

And instead of Postecoglou’s comment coming to fruition with success, it has actually been quite the opposite.

In terms of entertainment value, the ongoing series has blown the previous one out of the water, no matter how frustrating and heartbreaking this is for Spurs fans.

Tottenham could not have imagined failure at this level

As mentioned, the current campaign was supposed to be the beginning of a new era for Spurs – the outcome thus far could not have been further from what was expected.

Tottenham looked ambitious last summer, with the high-profile arrivals of Xavi Simons, Randal Kolo Muani, Joao Palhinha and more.

But some of Spurs’ seasoned heads have since proven to be mentally weak, with Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven coming under particular criticism in recent weeks.

Tudor has taken over a downtrodden squad with little to no confidence, and the form of certain individuals raise the questions as to whether as much blame lands at Postecoglou or Frank’s feet as originally thought.

Tottenham sit just a point above the drop zone, with relegation now a serious threat – something that seemed impossible just under a year ago.

But the simple fact of the matter is that the club only have themselves to blame.
