Ange Postecoglou ‘to leave Tottenham’ – Three things learned in Liverpool loss

Tottenham were humiliated on Sunday as Liverpool clinched the Premier League title at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s side thrashed the Lilywhites 5-1 to secure Liverpool’s 20th English league title.

Postecoglou did something no Spurs manager had ever done as the Australian made wholesale changes on Merseyside.

However, this well and truly backfired, with the hosts running riot and leaving Spurs embarrassed ahead of their UEFA Europa League semi-final against Bodø/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (1 May).

Richarlison ‘finished at Tottenham’

Postecoglou made the decision to drop Richarlison to the bench ahead of kick-off at Anfield.

This is despite the Brazilian scoring in the 2-1 Premier League defeat against Nottingham Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday (21 April).

Richarlison’s time with Tottenham has been a disappointment

In addition, many supporters might have suggested that Dominic Solanke, who did score at Anfield, should be rested ahead of the Europa League semi-final.

However, Postecoglou opted against starting Richarlison for a second consecutive game by starting the Englishman instead.

Therefore, it is pretty clear that Richarlison doesn’t have much of a future at Spurs if he isn’t even able to start in games as meaningless as the one against Liverpool was for Postecoglou’s side.

Vicario needs to improve at Tottenham

Vicario conceded five times against Liverpool at Anfield.

While he wasn’t necessarily at fault for any of those goals, the Italian’s overall performance was a shaky one, and wouldn’t have instilled much confidence in his defenders.

Therefore, if Tottenham are going to win the Europa League, Vicario will need to improve on Thursday.

Postecoglou is ‘destined to leave Tottenham’

Even if Spurs win the Europa League, Postecoglou is expected to leave Tottenham.

And based on the showing at Anfield, it is clear to see why. Regardless of Spurs’ fortunes in Europe this year, 19 defeats in the Premier League is a sign that it is perhaps time for a fresh start.

Therefore, whether he walks away himself or Daniel Levy sacks him, it looks as though Postecoglou’s Tottenham exit is inevitable.
