Ange Postecoglou ‘furious’ after latest Cristian Romero development
Cristian Romero has spent a large period of the current campaign injured, though the latest development could spell bad news for Tottenham.
Tottenham have endured a dismal season, though much of that is down to the injury crisis that has ensued so far this campaign.
Romero is just one of several players to have suffered the consequences of that injury crisis, with Postecoglou forced to shoulder much of the blame.
However, with Romero edging closer to a first-team return, Postecoglou will not be happy with the latest update surrounding the Argentine defender.

Romero gets Argentina call-up
Romero has been out of action since December, and the latest news from Argentina suggested that he is edging ever closer to a return.
However, with that positive news comes some of a far more negative nature, with it revealed that the Tottenham defender has received a preliminary call-up to the Argentina squad for the upcoming international break.
Given the severity of his injury and the likelihood of it worsening if he were to return sooner than planned, Postecoglou will be fuming that it hasn’t been taken into account.
Tottenham | Appearances | Pass accuracy | Tackle success |
Cristian Romero | 12 | 90.5% | 85.2% |
Having been out injured for three months, Romero will need time to settle back into the intensity of first-team football, and his call-up is only likely to hinder that.
While there is a chance that Romero will not play any football for Argentina over the international break, the very fact that he has been included in their preliminary squad should be of concern to Tottenham.
On the flipside, the seeming willingness of Romero to play for Argentina, despite having yet to return for Tottenham, has been the topic of debate for Spurs fans on social media, with many suggesting that he is more committed to his national team than he is to his club.

Postecoglou deserves some sympathy for what has happened at Tottenham
While Postecoglou has hardly given a good account of himself this season, there has to be some consideration made for the overwhelming number of injuries he has had to deal with.
Unlike other teams in the Premier League, those injuries have been sustained to key players, meaning that Spurs have very rarely had a full squad to pick from.
With that said, the Australian’s reluctance to adapt to the situation has also played a part in Tottenham‘s regression this season.
As we approach the end of the campaign, the hope will be that Spurs can finish the season as strongly as possible, with the Europa League their only remaining chance of winning silverware this campaign.
