Werner moment in Tottenham win v Tamworth sparks hilarity on 5 Live – ‘Comical’
Stephen Warnock and John Murray were left in stitches after what happened to Timo Werner in the FA Cup third-round tie between Tottenham and Tamworth.
Spurs were taken into extra time by the National League side who put up a more than decent fight throughout the clash but, in the end, Spurs had too much quality and left as 3-0 victors.
In the first half of the game, Spurs attempted to clear the ball away from their box but rather than it going the distance required, it hit Tottenham attacker Werner in the back of the head and ended up in the hands of the Tamworth fans who were in the stands.
This moment caused both Murray and Warnock to burst out laughing with the former even describing it as “comical”.
“Spurs looking to clear the ball away but it hits Werner on the back of the head and bounces out of play,” Murray said on BBC Radio Five Live (12 January).
To which Warnock replied: “It was brilliant the way he was looking to see where it had gone, he’s thinking is it in front of me is it behind, and it’s in the Tamworth fans’ hands”.
Murray then added: “That was comical”.
Timo Werner’s days as a Tottenham player are now surely numbered
This season, Werner has been one of the least reliable players in Ange Postecoglou’s team with the German often falling short in the final third.
He’s been interchanged with the likes of Brennan Johnson and Son Heung-min throughout the campaign and even though he was given a chance to start against Tamworth, he failed to capitalise on the opportunity he was handed.
After all, the attacker is only on a year-long loan deal and as Spurs don’t have an obligation to buy him, if he underperforms, he’ll be sent straight back to RB Leipzig as soon as the end of the season comes around.

There have already been rumours surfacing regarding his future with Eintracht Frankfurt looking towards the former Chelsea man as a potential replacement should Omar Marmoush join Manchester City.
At the moment, nothing is set in stone but on the surface of it, things aren’t looking too good for the 28-year-old.
