Wayne Rooney hits out at new Tottenham footage after what Postecoglou has done

Ange Postecoglou was far from happy despite Tottenham coming from behind to draw 2-2 against Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

With the Lilywhites 2-0 down in the 65th minute, the Australian was left with hands on his hips after goals from Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson.

However, a cross-turned-goal from Pape Matar Sarr before a Son Hueng-min penalty turned everything around to give Tottenham a point from the game.

Wayne Rooney cannot believe Tottenham footage

Bournemouth are the surprise package of the Premier League this season and were disappointed to come away from the game with only a point.

The Cherries saw a Justin Kluivert goal disallowed due to an offside in the build-up but easily could have been ahead by more before Spurs got themselves back into the game.

It wasn’t a great performance from Spurs and they found themselves under immense pressure too many times due to playing out from the back despite a high press from Bournemouth.

Wayne Rooney called Tottenham and Postecoglou out for that, admitting that someone has to take control on or off the pitch as they were punished consistently.

Speaking on Match of the Day as footage replayed (9 March, 42:51), he said: “I think Ange has made it clear that he wants to stick to his principles but I think there’s certain moments in games where you have to take control and whether that’s the goalkeeper, whether that’s the captain on the pitch or the manager himself, someone has to take control because of what Bournemouth were doing in the press.

“But Tottenham were so naive in keeping trying to do it and kept getting caught.”

Postecoglou pressure builds again at Tottenham

It’s no secret that Tottenham have delivered well below the expected levels this term and Postecoglou has been eager to remind people of the injuries in his side as mitigation.

While this has been a fair factor to take into account, with key Tottenham players having returned from injury of late, the boss has to make sure his team are stepping up and showing that with fitness in the squad, they can manage the challenges they face.

Postecoglou has come under immense pressure, although progression in the Europa League seemed to have eased some of the noise.

However, with Spurs 1-0 down heading into the second leg of their round of 16 tie on Thursday against AZ Alkmaar (13 March), the Lilywhites have to deliver otherwise serious questions will be hanging over the manager’s future at Tottenham.

As Rooney says, having the ability to adapt when necessary could make a massive change to Tottenham’s fortunes in the remainder of the season.
