Troy Deeney predicts Tottenham star to have ‘unbelievable season’ as duo named in Team of the Week

Troy Deeney has sung Tottenham’s praises once again after an incredible start to the season.

Thomas Frank has had an unbelievable start to life at Tottenham. Spurs bagged all three points against Manchester City at the Etihad to achieve back-to-back Premier League wins.

Frank has rightfully received his praises at Tottenham, but his players have shone above the rest in the top flight.

While the year is still long, it is already becoming clear that the Lilywhites could be storming towards an incredible season.

Brennan Johnson and Micky van de Ven named in Team of the Week

Deeney was full of praise for Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus after Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Burnley at home.

Kudus’ transfer from West Ham is shaping up to be the signing of the summer, while Richarlison looks to be rediscovering his Everton form.

But Spurs’ most recent win against Man City has seen two different players recognised for their brilliance.

Deeney, writing for BBC Sport on Tuesday, 26 August, has named both Brennan Johnson and Micky van de Ven in his Team of the Week.

He observed that Johnson, who netted his second of the season against Man City, is going to have an “unbelievable season.” Deeney theorised that Kudus is going to shift most of the opposition’s focus to the right side, which would free up space for Johnson to cause havoc on the left.

Meanwhile, Deeney remarked that van de Ven “set the tempo” against Man City, initiating the press on several occasions. He believes the defender has been a “colossus” under Frank, and there is no doubt that he will have a grand season if he remains fit.

With back-to-back wins and back-to-back Tottenham players in the Team of the Week, this is shaping up to be a season to remember.

Tottenham players who could have unforgettable seasons

As well as van de Ven and Johnson, several other players could show their class under Frank.

Cristian Romero tops the list. The Argentine was recently named captain at Tottenham and will want to start his tenure on a high.

Djed Spence will also be hoping for a world-class season. Spence has transformed his Tottenham career since arriving and has quickly become an important player for Frank. With the 2026 World Cup this season, he’ll be hoping his performances impress Thomas Tuchel.

Last but not least is Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian had an incredible debut season, but struggled the season after. With two clean sheets already under his belt, the 2025/26 season could eclipse his debut one.
