Troy Deeney names perfect manager for Tottenham after Postecoglou sack revelation

Ange Postecoglou begins a make-or-break week as Tottenham manager with a home match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.

Postecoglou has had to fend off questions regarding his future for a number of months now amid a terrible domestic campaign.

Tottenham still have a shot at silverware in the Europa League, though, with Frankfurt visiting North London on 10 April, before the reverse leg in Germany in a week’s time.

Speaking on the eve of the match, Postecoglou appeared to imply he will be sacked by Tottenham regardless of what happens – or at least that is what he has read from elsewhere.

And if that is to be the case, former Premier League striker turned pundit Troy Deeney believes there is an ideal candidate out there waiting to take charge.

Marco Silva tipped for Tottenham job

Deeney believes Fulham manager Marco Silva is ideally suited to the Tottenham job thanks to the work he has done across London.

Silva has spent the past four years at Craven Cottage and even has Fulham in contention for Champions League qualification.

Speaking to talkSPORT (9 April), Deeney said the man who took charge of him at Watford in the past could quickly transform Spurs.

“Marco is more than ready,” he said when asked specifically about if he could replace Postecoglou.

“The biggest compliment you could take for Marco Silva is that, if you look at all the people that are around him – his staff – they’ve been poached, because [other clubs] want Marco Silva, but they go and get the people off his branches.

“He’s ready for a big team. I think he’d be perfect for Spurs if they would allow him to just go and take over and not get involved too much from up above.

“I think he’d change the culture of that place within three months. Marco is definitely ready. Fulham are on a good trajectory but I think they’ll struggle to keep him long term.”

Silva is under contract with Fulham until the end of next season, meaning Tottenham would have to pay a compensation fee to the Cottagers to lure him away.

Who else is in contention to replace Postecoglou at Tottenham?

The bookmakers continue to make Mauricio Pochettino the favourite to make a sensational return to Tottenham.

Indeed, Postecoglou even recently said he would like to one day see Pochettino back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Andoni Iraola, Thomas Frank and Edin Terzic complete the top five, which also includes Silva.

All Postecoglou can do for now is ensure Tottenham overcome Frankfurt and delay what seems like the inevitable for a little while longer yet.
