Tottenham v Man United: Injured star makes shock return to training

Tottenham and Manchester United are preparing to play in the UEFA Europa League final, as a major training ground update now emerges.

Tottenham will compete in a European final for the sixth time on Wednesday (21 May) when they take on Manchester United at the Estadio de San Mamés.

Ange Postecoglou will be without James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski for the all-important clash. Therefore, the 59-year-old will need to be imaginative in how he approaches the match.

However, he might be forced to rethink his plans after a training ground update on Tuesday (20 May).

Manchester United see three players return to training

Tottenham have suffered greatly with injuries this season, but things haven’t exactly been plain sailing for Manchester United, either.

However, Ruben Amorim may have just been handed a godsend hours before the final is to take place.

Joshua Zirkzee was expected to miss the remainder of the season.

However, as reported by Sky Sports News (20 May), the forward trained with the rest of the Manchester United squad at Carrington on Tuesday.

Digo Dalot and Leny Yoro were also involved with first-team training a day away from the final against Tottenham in Bilbao.

Postecoglou must be prepared for the final

While the news from Carrington may have thrown a spanner in the works, with Zirkzee’s return a particular surprise after the Dutchman was expected to miss the rest of the season, now is not the time for Postecoglou to feel sorry for himself.

Indeed, the 59-year-old will walk into the game without his best lineup, but this has been the case for the majority of the campaign.

In fact, the information coming out of Carrington could be a positive for Postecoglou, who may now have the opportunity to defeat a stronger United squad.

Greatness is often made when someone’s back is against the wall, and the Europa League final could be Postecoglou’s greatest challenge yet.
