Tottenham v Bournemouth preview: Team news, betting odds, lineups, where to watch

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou’s attention will switch to the Premier League after a disappointing defeat in the UEFA Europa League.

Spurs were beaten 1-0 by AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 at the AFAS Stadion on Thursday (6 March).

It was a disappointing result, but an even more disappointing performance, with Jamie O’Hara enraged by what he saw in the Netherlands.

None of Spurs’ players turned up, with fans calling for Son Heung-min and James Maddison to have their wages docked after one incident.

However, the North London side have the opportunity to put things right and build a bit of momentum for the second leg when they host Bournemouth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (9 March).

Preview

Spurs’ match with Bournemouth has an element of added intrigue surrounding it as speculation about Andoni Iraola potentially replacing Postecoglou heats up.

Should the home side suffer their 19th defeat of the season, the pressure will really be on Postecoglou ahead of the clash with AZ Alkmaar at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (13 March), where the Australian might well be fighting for his future in North London.

Therefore, he will be keen to pick up three points, even if Spurs have very little to play for in the Premier League. However, Bournemouth are flying high this season, and despite a recent dip in form, they’ll be hopeful of taking advantage of a Spurs side lacking in confidence to boost European ambitions of their own.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-3 Bournemouth

Spurs will be hurting after the defeat to AZ Alkmaar. As a result, they will be keen to build some momentum and give their fans something to cheer about heading into the second leg.

However, this match with Bournemouth might prove difficult. Should Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven once again start on the bench, while Dominic Solanke misses out, the Cherries could take advantage.

Iraola’s side have a chance of spectacularly qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, and a win against Spurs could get them back on track. Therefore, with the hosts distracted by their Europa League endavours, and Bournemouth aiming high, this could be a match filled with goals.

However, ultimately one which tips in the favour of the visitors.
