Tottenham transfer news as Fabrizio Romano shares Timo Werner permanent transfer update

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner and the possibility of a permanent switch to Tottenham.

Werner has impressed in flashes across his two months on loan at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from the Bundesliga side.

A permanent switch to North London has been touted, with the Germany international having a €17million (£14.6m) purchase clause in his deal.

In a tweet sent from his personal account on Friday (22 March), Romano said: “Timo Werner, happy at Tottenham and open to stay at the club beyond this season… but no decision has been made yet.

“Spurs will take their time to decide on Werner and more situations ahead of next season. Buy option clause: €17m.”

Timo Werner performing well under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Werner is a player that is clearly adept at playing under Ange Postecoglou and he has had his fair share of bright moments in a Spurs shirt.

The 28-year-old’s figures back that up, having either scored or assisted in four of his eight Premier League outings for the club.

Werner has often been let down by his final product, but he is making an impact when used by Postecoglou in a system that clearly suits him.

The £14m-plus fee is fairly cheap in the current market, and Spurs have the advantage of essentially test-driving him before making a decision.

Nothing has to be decided right now, but if the versatile attacker continues making an impact, it seems like a no-brainer on the face of it.

If this update from Romano is anything to go by, Werner himself would also clearly welcome a permanent move to Tottenham.

With 10 games of the Premier League campaign to go, it is now down to Werner to earn himself a full-time deal with the Lilywhites.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are reaping the rewards of a decision taken by Daniel Levy six years ago.
