Bayern Munich £85m proposal to sign Harry Kane rejected by Tottenham – David Ornstein
Bayern Munich have seen their improved £85million bid for Harry Kane rejected by Tottenham, with their latest offer of £25million short of Spurs’ valuation, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (7 August), reports that talks last week led to an improved bid for the England record goalscorer, but Bayern’s third offer was well shy of Tottenham’s £100m valuation.
The Germans submitted the offer on Friday (4 August, The Guardian) and were awaiting an immediate response from chairman Daniel Levy. However, it’s now been reported that the Tottenham chief has knocked back the latest offer.
Ornstein tweeted: “Bayern Munich have seen latest offer for Harry Kane rejected by Tottenham.
“After proposals in June and July were turned down, Bayern Munich were £25m short of Tottenham’s valuation.
“Talks last week led to an improved bid but that has now been knocked back too.
Another bid unlikely
It certainly now remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich will return with yet another improved bid for Kane, with their latest offer falling well short of what Spurs value him at, even though his contract has just a year to run.
Kane has been said to be open to the Munich move but it looks unlikely that he’d want to force through his desires by handing in a transfer request after the Manchester City debacle a couple of years ago.

The 30-year-old certainly won’t mind running down his contract to be able to have a plethora of options in one of Europe’s elite clubs next summer, but the question is whether Levy will allow that to happen or if Kane can be persuaded to extend his North London stay.
What’s abundantly clear is that Kane’s desire to win trophies will ultimately sway any decision made, and whether he can achieve that at Spurs this season, remains an unlikely possibility under new management in Ange Postecoglou.
However, Spurs look to be heading in a new and improved direction under the Australian coach but will that be enough to give Kane the assurances he needs to stay on? Possibly not.
The ball is in Bayern Munich’s court now, and whether manager Thomas Tuchel is desperate to get his man so much so that the club will succumb to Spurs’ £100m demands.
The hefty price tag for Kane’s services is understandable because if Spurs lose him in the coming weeks, their progress under Postecoglou could take a serious nosedive. Can a potential replacement be sorted out in time ahead of the transfer deadline? A huge ask.
In other Tottenham news, a £20.7m bid has been prepared to sign one experienced European goal machine, contact has already been made.
