Tottenham told to pay £70m to sign Bournemouth star amid Iraola talk

Tottenham are set to add major reinforcements to their front line this summer following a dismal campaign.

Diminishing returns from captain Son Heung-Min, as well as underwhelming contributions from the likes of Mathys Tel and the forgotten man Timo Werner have left the Lilywhites short of firepower in the wide areas.

They have already earmarked Antoine Semenyo as a potential target. However, news emerging from Bournemouth might put a spanner in the works.

Bournemouth set lofty price tag for Semenyo

The Cherries will not only be looking to fend off growing interest from Spurs in their manager Andoni Iraola but will also hope to retain their star players as they continue to establish themselves as a growing force.

Semenyo, signed from Bristol in 2023, has become a key player for his side and still has four years left on his deal after signing a new contract last summer.

Bournemouth’s impressive season has strengthened their stance on retaining the player, and they have reportedly slapped a £70million price tag on their talisman, according to Givemesport.

With interest in the 25-year-old also coming from Liverpool and Manchester United, Bournemouth know they are in a commanding position to negotiate, making Tottenham’s approach even more difficult.

Spurs have done business with the South coast outfit as recently as last summer with the acquisition of Dominic Solanke, yet in under a year, they have become the team less likely to offer Semenyo the prospect of European football.

Semenyo’s potential at Spurs

The Ghanaian international has been a stalwart of what has become a formidable attacking outfit, already matching last season’s goal output in the league while adding two more assists to his name.

His availability for his side is equally consistent, only not starting one game all season due to suspension. This robustness is a stark contrast to the forwards at Tottenham, all of whom have suffered setbacks at various points of the season.

His direct running, 1-on-1 dribbling abilities and inexhaustible engine, along with his end product, make him a fearful opponent to any side and is exactly what Tottenham are crying out for if they are to develop as a force to be reckoned with.
