Tottenham told to make ‘class act’ Vicario captain after new update
Guglielmo Vicario made his frustration clear after Tottenham were beaten by AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday.
Vicario went over to the Tottenham away fans after the 1-0 loss in the Netherlands and raised his arms in an act that appeared to suggest he wanted more support for the team.
Some Tottenham fans in attendance did not react well to the Italian goalkeeper’s gesture and he reacted angrily to the response.
In a new update on Instagram on Friday, the 28-year-old issued an apology to supporters and acknowledged the “terrible” performance.
Tottenham fans react to Vicario apology
Speaking prior to Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth, boss Ange Postecoglou defended Vicario and said he was merely displaying his passion.
It seems as though many supporters are in agreement, with fans taking to social media to insist Vicario did not need to apologise for what happened.
Indeed, one labelled him a “class act”, with another calling for him to be made captain after the passion he displayed in the Europa League defeat.
While the result was a hugely disappointing one, Vicario has been hailed for at least showing he cares about the club.

Tottenham have to respond this week
Whatever your view may be on what Vicario did it is refreshing to see someone care after another Tottenham disappointment.
There have been mitigating circumstances this season, not least the cruel amount of injury absences, but frankly this campaign has just been a complete disappointment.
Struggling badly in the league, a meek surrender in the EFL Cup semi-finals after winning the first leg against Liverpool, and exiting the FA Cup to Aston Villa.
Opponent | Home or away |
Bournemouth (Premier League) | Home |
AZ Alkmaar (Europa League) | Home |
Fulham (Premier League) | Away |
Chelsea (Premier League) | Away |
All of those factors made it especially disappointing to see such a timid showing at Alkmaar, with the Europa League Tottenham’s last chance of silverware this season.
Spurs welcome Bournemouth on Sunday before Alkmaar make the trip to North London on Thursday and Tottenham simply must respond to the adversity.
If things do not go as planned then Postecoglou may find himself on the managerial scrapheap at Tottenham, it really does feel like last-chance saloon.
