‘Tottenham to want Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna’ amid Postecoglou sack news

Kieran McKenna could be the next man in line for the Tottenham job if Ange Postecoglou is relieved of his duties, Henry Winter has said.

Spurs were defeated 3-2 by Everton in their Premier League clash on Sunday and were the second-best team throughout most of the game.

Writing via his personal X account (19 January), journalist Winter questioned who Spurs could hire if Daniel Levy does choose to sack the Australian, namechecking Ipswich boss McKenna and Bournemouth coach Andoni Iroala as potential options.

“It’s all very well saying Ange out – and that first half was embarrassing – but who in? Would Spurs get Iraola or McKenna,” he wrote.

“Would the culture of meekness at the club change overnight? Many of Spurs problems pre-date Postecoglou.

“The one positive for the future is that some of the players working hardest are the youngest (Moore, Gray, Bergvall and Spence 24).”

Ipswich themselves haven’t had the best of times since being promoted from the second tier to the Premier League.

However, it’s hard to deny that McKenna earning two promotions on the bounce with the Tractor Boys isn’t impressive.

At the moment Ipswich sit 18th in the Premier League table and are four points adrift of 16th-placed Everton.

Wolves are level on points with them at the moment so it’s still anyone’s guess which teams are going to be in the bottom three by the time the end of the season comes around.

While Ipswich may instantly go back down, players such as Liam Delap have more than proven themselves in the top flight and at times, it’s felt like McKenna has too.

Whoever Levy may have lined up to replace the Australian needs to be prepared for a bumpy ride because no matter who enters the frame, it certainly won’t be a light and breezy stroll to the finish line.
