Tottenham stadium architects drafted in by Newcastle United as plans emerge
Newcastle United have drafted in architects who worked on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to design the club’s new training ground, according to Craig Hope.
Writing in the Daily Mail’s printed edition (24 January, page 74), Hope said “world-renowned” US-based company Populus will design the Magpies’ new base.
Populus were the designers for Tottenham’s state-of-the-art stadium, regarded as one of the best sports venue’s in the world, and Real Madrid’s Sports City.
Tottenham architects in demand
It is little wonder that the architects who designed Spurs’ marvellous stadium are so in demand.
While things haven’t always gone to plan on the pitch this season, off it the club are in an extremely healthy position not least because of the commercial opportunities brought by having the stadium.
Hope did add that Populus’ work on a new training base, which he said could take years to complete, does not necessarily mean they will work on the stadium project for St James’ Park.
Spurs’ stadium is the envy of supporters over the world and has seen the likes of Beyonce perform there, while Tyson Fury has fought at the venue.

While there are many criticisms that could be levelled at Daniel Levy, especially as regards transfers, there should be credit given for the work done on the stadium.
And it seems that the work of the developers is not going unnoticed, with Newcastle aiming to build a facility to help entrench themselves in the Premier League’s elite.
