Tottenham should go all out for player with ‘huge potential’ after Savinho news
Manchester City may have unknowingly given Tottenham the perfect gift this summer.
Tottenham have been keen to sign another winger after Son Heung-min left for LAFC after almost a decade in North London.
Savinho ranked high on Daniel Levy’s list, with the Spurs chairman ready to break club transfer records to sign him at Tottenham.
But with less than a week until the summer window closes, Levy will need to put his eggs in another basket.

Manchester City block Savinho transfer
Manchester City were determined to keep Savinho this summer. But it was believed that a hefty fee could weaken their resolve.
However, the Citizens seem unwilling to budge as Spurs’ hopes of signing the Brazilian continue to crumble.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X on Wednesday, 27 August, Man City have informed Tottenham that they are not changing their position on Savinho.
Pep Guardiola’s side have no intention of letting him go, not even for a fee of over £60million, as he is seen as a key player for the season and future. This also blocks any chance of Rodrygo transferring to Man City.
As a result, Tottenham will have to move on to alternative targets, which could shape up to be the best outcome for all involved.

Tottenham should all out for Maghnes Akliouche
Maghnes Akliouche emerged as an alternative for Savinho if the Lilywhites could not get the transfer over the line.
During a press conference before facing Reims on 13 December, 2024, his teammate Takumi Minamino spoke highly of him.
He said: “When I arrived at the Club, I noticed him straight away, he was the best young player in the team, he has huge potential and he showed it last year against several teams.
“He is always humble, he is a good player, but also a good person above all. I am sure he will have a good future so I am happy to be able to play with him.”
Akliouche also received his first senior call-up for France on 27 August, with Didier Deschamps snubbing Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike for the Monaco winger.
With the highest of praises from his teammates and Akliouche set to take over on the international stage, there would be nowhere better for him to take the next step than at Tottenham.
The Monaco star also bests Savinho on two important metrics. During the 2024/25 season, Akliouche scored more goals and provided more key passes compared to the Man City speedster.

While Spurs are spoiled for goals with Mohammed Kudus and Brennan Johnson on the wings, creativity is an area where Johnson does not excel, and Akilouche could help with.
As such, it is a no brainer for Tottenham to use the money reserved for Savinho and use it to fund Akliouche’s arrival.
