Tottenham ripped apart by Richard Keys after what happened v Newcastle United
Richard Keys was shocked by Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to play out from the back against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Ange Postecoglou’s side got off to the best start through Dominic Solanke, heading home from a beautiful Pedro Porro cross, but nothing is ever that simple for Spurs.
Only a small portion of the Hotspur Way crowd was cheering less than two minutes later on 4 January, with Joelinton and Anthony Gordon teaming up to take advantage of Spurs’ slack passing at the back.
Taking to X [4 January], Keys wrote: “46 seconds of playing time between those 2 goals. That’s beyond naive – that’s plain daft. Just get the ball up the pitch.
Ange Postecoglou fails to learn as Tottenham mess up v Newcastle United
The Lilywhites could have used their one-goal advantage to steady the ship and control the game, but that has not been a part of their game in recent weeks.
Performances have been absolutely chaotic, and with Alexander Isak ensuring the turnaround was already complete in the first half, it was just another day at the office for the under-pressure manager.
Supporters are only becoming more and more frustrated with their team’s lack of quality on the pitch, in possession, and inability to maintain leads, and rightly so.
Brandon Austin will have been eager to impress during his first Premier League start, and with Spurs playing out from the back every other game, he may not have had a choice.
However, with the likes of Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson on the flanks, and Solanke able to hold the ball up, launching the ball long can be just as effective as any other playing style.
But Postecoglou is clearly too stuck in his ways to change the tactics, even when the current one is only causing more damage, and it could certainly lead to Daniel Levy making a rather cut-throat decision.
In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou has been backed to terminate a loanee’s current deal to help solve their current “crisis”.
