Tottenham relegation: O’Hara ‘rings alarm bells’ after what Jeff Stelling said

Jamie O’Hara believes any Tottenham fans refusing to admit their team is in a relegation battle are currently living in “cuckoo-land”.

Spurs are just three places above the Premier League dropzone following their shock 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday 26 January, sitting eight points above 18th-place Wolves.

Water continues to rise around Ange Postecoglou’s ankle, and while it is understood a decision has already been made to keep the Australian in charge [Alasdair Gold], he must turn things around at Hotspur Way.

Speaking live via talkSPORT [27 January, 9:09am], Jeff Stelling said: “Bournemouth, we all thought they were wrong for getting rid of Gary O’Neil but look at what Andoni Iraola has done, Forest brought in Nuno [Espirito Santo] and he’s done a brilliant job.”

In response, O’Hara said: “Everyone around us, Jeff, we’re sitting in 15th and everyone around us has sacked their manager. Spurs are the only club to keep their manager.

“To me, just rings alarm bells. If you think Spurs are not in a relegation battle just because they’re Tottenham, you’re in cuckoo-land. Spurs are in a relegation fight and they need to pick up points.”

Are Tottenham really in a Premier League relegation battle?

The Lilywhites are one point closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top half of the Premier League table, but that could change in the blink of an eye.

Postecoglou’s side are without a victory in seven matches, but with Spurs still competing in the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup, the squad is more than good enough to be competing at the opposite end of the table.

With Brentford, Manchester United, Ipswich Town and Manchester City up next for Spurs, it is difficult to see where the points will be coming from, but they have already claimed shock victories this season.

Near the start of the season, the Lilywhites completed back-to-back wins over Man City, once in the EFL Cup and once in the league, as well as beating Aston Villa 4-1 and Man United 3-0.

Postecoglou cannot live off those rare positive results, however, as football is a cut-throat business and the manager is edging closer and closer to being sacked by Daniel Levy.
