Tottenham relegation odds slashed after major Premier League development

Tottenham have seen their odds to be relegated from the Premier League slashed to 150/1 following recent Premier League results.

Leading bookmaker bet365 have shortened Spurs’ odds for an inexplicable relegation which while remaining extremely unlikely, has become an outside shout for those who feel improvement will not occur under Ange Postecoglou to a dire extent.

Postecoglou’s side, who have dropped to 15th in the Premier League with Manchester United and Crystal Palace both winning since their defeat at Arsenal (15 January), take on Everton in their final-ever league visit to Goodison Park on Sunday (19 January).

Several other bookmakers, including Coral and Ladbrokes, price Tottenham as lowly as 66/1 to drop into the Championship at the end of the season, having so far lost 11 of their 21 league matches.

Tottenham in dire straits ahead of Everton clash

It will all look temporarily rosy for Tottenham if they can claim an away win on Merseyside on Sunday, but the reality is what many fans have been in uproar over.

Spurs are free-falling down the league table, are without a top-flight win since 15 December and defeat to Everton would leave them just four points ahead of the wounded Toffees having also played an extra game.

There remain positives to salvage the campaign – should Spurs avoid defeat at Anfield next month, they will be back under the Wembley arch to compete for their first trophy in 17 years in the Carabao Cup; the Europa League remains a distinct possibility, and by hook or by crook, they remain in the FA Cup.

Postecoglou will of course stay bold and confident in public over his declaration of winning a trophy in his second season of every managerial tenure he undergoes, and he has to hope he lasts long enough in the job to deliver on his promise.

Daniel Levy receives few Christmas cards each year from fans in North London and is looked upon with laser focus during the winter transfer window, in which the Lilywhites are being muscled out of the reckoning for their top targets.

Tottenham need to strengthen the squad urgently. They need results urgently. The next fortnight could define their entire campaign.
