Tottenham ‘ready to accept £60m bid’ after new Cristian Romero reveal

Cristian Romero’s future has been a constant talking point at Tottenham this season.

The experienced defender has had a rollercoaster career at Spurs, showcasing moments of brilliance with smatterings of madness thrown in due to his hot-headed nature.

Romero has had a difficult 2024-25 campaign from a personal perspective as he has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines due to an injury he sustained back in December.

His defensive qualities have been missed by Ange Postecoglou though, with Tottenham in the middle of a dreadful season as they sit 14th in the Premier League table.

Tottenham have decided on Romero’s contract

Postecoglou has made Romero a key part of his team whenever he’s been fit and available, which is why his long-term future is such a big priority for the Premier League side before the summer transfer window opens.

According to TBR Football, Spurs have decided to shelve any plans to hold contract talks with the defender right now, as it has been revealed he is pushing to leave this summer.

Spurs had been willing to put their faith in Romero by making him their highest earner, whether they qualify for Europe next season or not, with Atletico Madrid ready to make a move.

Romero is under contract until 2027, which puts Spurs under no real pressure to sell him, and also means that Tottenham will be in a strong negotiating position if that decision is made.

Tottenham set Romero price tag

With Romero now pushing for the exit door, Spurs would likely accept a £60million bid.

At this point, Tottenham would accept a deal for that sort of fee in the summer transfer window, even though they ideally want to keep him.

Diego Simeone is said to be a big fan of the 26-year-old and believes he is one of the best defenders in the world, which could lead to the Spanish outfit making a move for him.

Real Madrid are also in the market for a central defender during the summer transfer window, but it is believed they’re considering other options such as Dean Huijsen.
