Tottenham player ripped to shreds by media after being ‘tormented’ by Arsenal
Pedro Porro was ripped to shreds by the Daily Mail’s player ratings as Tottenham were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the North London derby.
Spurs took the lead at Emirates Stadium through Son Heung-min on Wednesday (15 January) but an own goal from Dominic Solanke and Leandro Trossard’s effort earned the Gunners bragging rights.
Several Spurs players were frustratingly off the boil but Spanish full-back Porro copped for particular criticism in the Mail’s ratings, scoring him just 5.5 out of 10.
Explaining the reasoning, the publication wrote in its print edition (16 January, page 71): “Beaten by Trossard a number of times.
“The Spaniard’s opposite number appeared to enjoy tormenting him.”
Pedro Porro needs to give more to Tottenham
Porro has been massively underwhelming for Spurs this season, albeit he certainly has not been the only player guilty of being so.
But it is particularly disappointing because the 25-year-old had previously excelled under Ange Postecoglou and had even been linked with Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid (AS).

He is one of several players who simply just has to give more to the Tottenham cause, especially in the midst of a defensive injury crisis that has seen Archie Gray utilised as a centre-back.
The meek surrender against Arsenal was tough to swallow but the reality is that this season the focus is going to be elsewhere away from the Premier League because Spurs’ form in the top flight has been nowhere near what’s required.
