Tottenham next manager: Xavi odds plummet after Postecoglou sack update

Xavi has emerged as the latest contender for the Tottenham job if Ange Postecoglou is given his marching orders.

The Australian is under intense pressure in North London after a dismal campaign and his fate rests of progress in the Europa League.

The ex-Celtic man’s chances of retaining his place in the dugout beyond the end of the season seem slim after several fallings out with supporters.

Xavi could be set to take over from Postecoglou

Daniel Levy has a big decision on Postecoglou, even if he wins the Europa League trophy, it may not be enough to save him, especially with exciting options available on the market if they decide to sack him.

Graham Roberts claimed on 7 April claimed that Spurs are set to review Postecoglou’s position at the end of the campaign amid supporters concerns.

One of the contenders to replace him is Xavi, who has been out of work since leaving Barcelona in 2024 and guided the Spanish giants to the La Liga title in the 2022-23 season.

The 45-year-old has emerged as one of the favourites to replace the Australian, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

His chances have plummeted to 4/1 with Bet Victor, which is a significant boost from odds of 16/1 back in January.

Andoni Iraola remains the favourite with that particular bookmaker at 2/1 with Mauricio Pochettino just behind him at odds of 5/2.

Tottenham could benefit from Xavi appointment

A World Cup and Champions League winner as a player, Xavi would bring an exceptional mentality to Spurs, one that they have lacked in recent years.

His philosophy is heavily rooted in Pep Guardiola’s style, a high-pressing, intricate passing system that could help Tottenham to join the Premier League’s elite after years in the doldrums.

His ability to get youth talents like Pedri and Gavi into his squad in Spain should bode well for Spurs, who have the likes of Callum Olusesi, Dane Scarlett and Damola Ajajy waiting for first-team opportunities.

He should also help to further develop the likes of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Mikey Moore, who have been handed significant senior chances under Postecoglou.

Overall, he would bring an exciting style of play, top-level experience and the ability to adapt his tactical blueprint, something which the former Celtic man seems incapable of doing.
