Tottenham next manager: Rodgers odds crash after Postecoglou sack development

Ange Postecoglou is under intense pressure at Tottenham as he clings to his seat in the dugout.

An abysmal domestic campaign has seen the North London outfit drop to 14th place in the Premier League and eliminated from both cup competitions.

The Europa League represents Spurs’ only chance at success and his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium may depend on their progress.

Brendan Rodgers odds slashed after Postecoglou latest

With Postecoglou seemingly on the way out at Tottenham, former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could be among the contenders to replace him.

The former Celtic manager is expected to lose his job if Spurs are eliminated in the Europa League quarter-finals, according to a report from the Sun on Sunday (page 55, 23 March).

Current Bhoys boss Rodgers’ odds have dropped to 12/1 with Bet Victor, meaning that he has an outside chance of being appointed in N17.

Andoni Iraola and ex-Lilywhites boss Mauricio Pochettino remain the favourites at 2/1 and 7/2 respectively if Daniel Levy decides to sack the 59-year-old.

Tottenham should avoid Rodgers appointment

While Rodgers has enjoyed success at Celtic, bringing another manager from the Hoops might not go down well in North London.

The 52-year-old had his most memorable stint in the Premier League with the Reds, nearly winning the title in the 2013/14 season.

However, his spell at Anfield went rapidly downhill after that and his side lost 6-1 to Stoke City in legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard’s final game for the club.

He was sacked with the Merseysiders 10th in the table in the 2015/16 season after three and a half years in the dugout but went on to enjoy success at Celtic and Leicester before returning to Glasgow for a second stint.

However, he would be an underwhelming appointment for Spurs supporters and would struggle to turn the Lilywhites’ fortunes around given his struggles when managing a top six club previously.

His disappointing European record would also leave concerns and there are still questions about his ability to manage at the top level after his Anfield debacle despite a positive spell with the Foxes.
