Tottenham next manager: Pochettino stance shared after bombshell update
Mauricio Pochettino’s name has been mentioned as a potential replacement for an under-pressure Ange Postecoglou if Tottenham decide to wield the axe.
The Australian could be living on borrowed time in North London right now, especially after being dumped out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa.
Now the Lilywhites are looking ahead to a clash against Manchester United on Sunday (16 February) which could prove to be the final curtain for the ex-Celtic boss.
If that is to be the case, Daniel Levy and Co. may be set to learn how Pochettino feels about taking over from the current Spurs boss.
Pochettino doesn’t want Tottenham switch
The Argentine departed N17 in 2019 and has gone on to manage PSG and Chelsea before taking over as the USA head coach in September 2024.
The 52-year-old has taken charge of just two matches with the Stars and Stripes and has been linked with a return to the Lilywhites.
Odds have been slashed and the ex-Southampton manager was the 7/2 favourite to replace Postecoglou if he is handed his marching orders [Bet Victor, 11 February] in a bombshell update this week.
Despite this, Pochettino is said to be enjoying his new life in the States and is keen on building the reputation of American soccer ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
TEAMtalk has reported (14 February) that the Ligue 1 title-winning coach is relishing the chance to work with younger players as well as the senior side which is likely to see him stay in international management.
This could turn him away from a return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium regardless of the manager’s friendship with Levy in North London.
Mauricio Pochettino unlikely to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
There is no doubt that the Argentine coach would be a well-received appointment at Spurs, with Jamie O’Hara backing him to have a telling impact, though his decision to take over at Chelsea definitely rankled part of the fanbase.
With that being said, he appears to be an option who is off the table right now as he continues his international football adventure ahead of the World Cup next year.
This will leave Postecoglou arguably in a better position as manager, regardless of the pressure, as Levy seeks out new options.

It will certainly be interesting to see what happens to the Australian if the result against Manchester United doesn’t match expectations.
