Tottenham next manager: Pochettino odds plummet after new Levy admission

Mauricio Pochettino may not be as loved among the Tottenham faithful as he once was, but he could yet be in line for a shock return.

The 53-year-old was sacked by Daniel Levy in November 2019, five months after guiding Spurs to the Champions League final.

Pochettino has since gone on to manage Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and now the United States national team.

While Pochettino’s spell with London rivals Chelsea may have damaged his reputation among the Tottenham fanbase, many still appreciate what he did with the Lilywhites.

Pochettino speaks out on Tottenham return

Pochettino has made clear he would be open to returning to Tottenham one day, even if he did not leave on the best terms with Levy.

Less than a week on from giving that interview to talkSPORT, Pochettino has now told Sky Sports [18 March] that he is still in regular contact with the Spurs chairman.

It perhaps comes as little surprise, then, that the odds of Pochettino replacing Ange Postecoglou in the Tottenham dugout have plummeted.

ManagerWin Percentage
Mauricio Pochettino54.27%
Ange Postecoglou48.28%
Both managers’ records with Tottenham.

Postecoglou is set to stay on as Tottenham boss for now, but only the Europa League is likely to save him if he is to last a third season in charge.

According to the latest odds from Paddy Power, as of Tuesday (18 March), Pochettino is now 11/2 to take over at Tottenham.

That compares to 20/1 to become next Tottenham manager a couple of months back, with the odds likely plummeting as a result of these recent interviews.

Who is favourite to become next Tottenham manager?

As per the bookmakers’ odds, Brentford boss Thomas Frank is the current frontrunner to succeed Postecoglou should he be sacked.

Then comes Pochettino, followed by Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and, perhaps surprisingly, Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town.

News of Pochettino being so high in the running will be met with mixed reaction, but it must be remembered he was only recently appointed by the United States.

And with a World Cup on home soil in a little over a year’s time, it seems highly unlikely he will be next through the door at Tottenham.
