Tottenham next manager: Massive Iraola bombshell drops ahead of Frankfurt tie

Tottenham could be in the hunt for a new manager this summer, but they have now been handed a blow over one of their key targets.

Ange Postecoglou could be dismissed after a dismal campaign, with Tottenham currently in 15th place in the Premier League.

The Europa League remains Tottenham’s last chance of European qualification, with the second leg of their quarter-final clash with Eintracht Frankfurt now their biggest game of the season.

If Postecoglou does depart Spurs, the Lilywhites have lined up Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola as a potential replacement, but these plans may now be scuppered.

Iraola to stay at Bournemouth despite Spurs interest

Although Iraola is a key target for Tottenham, it now appears that he is set to reject all interest this summer to remain at Bournemouth.

The Telegraph (15 April) have now reported that Iraola, who has one year left on his contract, is aiming to stay with the Cherries, who are in contention for European qualification.

Bournemouth also want to tie Iraola down to a new deal which could keep him on the South Coast for even longer, but even if he does not, he is not currently planning to leave his role even if the Spurs job becomes available.

Iraola has been a transformative figure at Bournemouth, taking them from relegation candidates to European contenders in less than two years, and Spurs will now have to look elsewhere.

Who else could replace Postecoglou at Tottenham?

With Postecoglou likely to leave, Spurs will need to have their ideal candidate lined up soon, and they may have to look at free agents.

Prising Iraola away from Bournemouth would be a tough task, and the same goes for fellow target Marco Silva at Fulham.

Thiago Motta has been linked with the position following his departure from Juventus, but it is unclear if the Italian would be keen on the role.

Postecoglou could save himself with victory in the Europa League, but given his side’s poor form right now, this appears an unlikely scenario, and Spurs may wish to have a replacement lined up in advance if he does depart.
