Tottenham new manager: Shock contender emerges after confirmed sack

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is under tremendous pressure this season.

The Australian has failed to inculcate a consistent winning attitude and the shortcomings in his squad have been heavily exposed.

Under Postecoglou, the North London outfit are sitting 13th in the Premier League, with just 34 points, as they somehow just languish in mid-table.

The Lilywhites are 15 points away from the top-four and at this point fighting for a Champions League spot is a distant dream and not a tangible reality.

Postecoglou to be sacked at Tottenham?

Given Tottenham’s inconsistent results that have seen them lose 14 Premier League matches, the Australian manager’s position is being heavily scrutinised week in, week out.

There have been rallying cries for Postecoglou to be sacked and several names have been linked.

Daniel Levy is not known to make rash decisions and will only decide on Postecoglou’s sacking once he has evaluated all the options at the table.

Managers like Andoni Iraola, Edin Terzic and Simone Inzaghi have been linked with the managerial gig at N17, but so far no concrete decision has been made regarding Postecoglou’s future.

Now, another name has been thrown in the mix. According to GIVEMESPORT, former Southampton manager Russell Martin is being viewed as a possible option.

The chiefs at Tottenham consider Martin to be a young manager who can instil an attractive playing style in the squad. The Scotsman was sacked from his Southampton post back in December 2024 after the Saints managed to accumulate just five points till Christmas.

Spurs bosses believe that Martin’s ideas are better-suited for implementation in the Tottenham squad and his abysmal record at St Mary’s does not reflect his abilities.

Europa League title is the only chance for Postecoglou?

The Lilywhites were staring at an early exit in the Europa League against AZ, however, Spurs managed to turn the tie around and win 3-1 in the second leg to progress to the quarter finals.

The result has bought some time for Postecoglou as he is still on course to guide Tottenham to a Europa League title.

Perhaps, winning the Europa League is the only saving grace for Postecoglou. Domestically, Tottenham’s season is over and only a trophy, which could be Spurs’ first major silverware since 2008, can help the Australian save his job.

Tottenham’s next big test is against Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter finals, scheduled to be played on the 10th and 17th April.

Martin may be waiting to take over should anything go wrong, and Postecoglou must use that as his motivation to go all the way.
