Tottenham new manager: Pochettino odds slashed as Postecoglou sack decision made

Mauricio Pochettino’s odds of becoming the next Tottenham manager have been slashed following a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday.

With the pressure already mounting on Ange Postecoglou, PaddyPower priced the former Lilywhites manager at an unlikely 20/1 as struggles continue at Hotspur Way.

Now, Pochettino’s odds have been slashed all the way down to 7/1 [PaddyPower], though Andoni Iraola and Edin Terzic still lead the race to be appointed by Daniel Levy.

However, Alasdair Gold has already revealed that Postecoglou will not be sacked despite suffering their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat on 26 January.

Mauricio Pochettino to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham?

Pochettino is currently plying his trade with the USA national team and is only just a handful of matches into his tenure, so it would take a lot of convincing to make him return to North London.

It also remains to be seen how supporters would react to the 53-year-old’s return, having switched to Chelsea in 2023, though that did not work out for the Argentine after just 11 months with the Blues.

Despite this, it is extremely clear that something needs to change as Spurs slip closer and closer to the Premier League relegation zone, with just eight points separating them from 18th-placed Wolves.

Levy has already been tipped to pull the trigger on Postecoglou’s time at Hotspur Way, but unless there is a replacement lined up, it is difficult to see the owner taking such a risk with the team in such a position.

Spurs are winless in their last seven league matches, and while injuries have played a massive part for the struggling manager, his squad is good enough to be doing so much better than that.

As for the managers being linked with Postecoglou’s job, Pochettino has a deep-lying history in North London, but that could swing either way for the supporters after six years away.

In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou has been caused issues by an “out-of-the-blue” signing.
