Tottenham new manager: Big Ryan Mason news emerges after Postecoglou update

Ryan Mason is among the leading candidates to be the new Tottenham manager.

Ange Postecoglou is under increasing pressure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Spurs currently sitting 15th in the Premier League table with just one win in their last 11 league outings.

On Sunday (26 January), Tottenham hit a new low as they squandered a lead to lose 2-1 to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester, who had been in even worse form than Spurs before their visit to North London.

However, despite the club’s woeful form, Daniel Levy seems intent on standing by Postecoglou with ESPN reporting on 27 January that the Aussie is being given a chance to save his job.

But if he’s unable to do that, two-time Spurs interim manager Mason could replace him in the hot seat.

According to the latest bookmakers’ odds, the 33-year-old is the third-favourite to succeed Postecoglou.

Ryan Mason among front-runners to be Tottenham new manager

PaddyPower, via OddsChecker, have Mason listed at 9/1 to be the next permanent manager of Spurs.

Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola (11/2) and Mauricio Pochettino (7/1) are currently more likely to manage Tottenham next, in the eyes of the bookies.

Mason is one of Postecoglou’s assistant coaches at the moment.

He’s previously taken caretaker charge of the Premier League club in 2021 and 2023 after exits for both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte respectively.

In the 13 matches he managed as interim boss, he won six times, drew one game and lost the other six.

One of those losses came in 2021 when he was forced into managing Spurs in the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Levy may be trying to avoid making that mistake with Tottenham close to sealing a spot in the final of the same competition this season.

As it stands, Spurs are 1-0 up against Liverpool in the semi-finals with the second leg due to be played at Anfield next week (6 February).

Win that and Tottenham will play either Arsenal or Newcastle in the final at Wembley and as Postecoglou has pretty much promised silverware in his second season in North London, there’s every chance that Levy will keep him as long as the team are in the competition.

In other Tottenham news, Michael Dawson’s mind was blown by how “unacceptable” this Spurs player’s performance was.
