Tottenham manage something against Man City that Andy Gray cannot recall seeing before
Tottenham produced a superb all-round display to overcome Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Spurs eased to a 3-0 win over Burnley in Thomas Frank‘s first game in charge and followed that up in style against Man City on Saturday.
Richarlison was again superb for Tottenham, teeing up Brennan Johnson for the 35th-minute opener before Joao Palhinha added a second before half-time.
While it is true City never really got going, full credit must go Tottenham‘s way for the manner in which the held one of the title favourites at bay.
And in doing so, Spurs managed to do something Andy Gray cannot recall seeing in recent history.

Thomas Frank pulls off tactical masterclass against Pep Guardiola
City manged four shots on target in total compared to Spurs’ five, with all but one of those coming in the first half.
The match at the Etihad Stadium was not without its controversy, but Guglielmo Vicario had little to do for large parts of the match, with a much-fancied City side failing to build on their 4-0 win over Wolves last weekend.
Former player-turned-pundit Gray was blown away by the performance from Frank’s side when analysing the game on beIN SPORTS.
“I don’t remember, in recent history, a game that City have had just one shot on target in 45 minutes of second-half football,” he said.
- Shots: Man City 10-12 Tottenham
- Shots on target: Man City 4-5 Tottenham
- Possession: Man City 61%-39% Tottenham
- Passes: Man City 503-324 Tottenham
Frank certainly got one over his opposite number, with Spurs only the second side to win away to a Pep Guardiola-managed team in back-to-back league seasons, after Manchester United did so in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

Tottenham create history in Manchester City win
As per Opta, Tottenham are the first side ever to score the first goal in five successive Premier League away games at the Etihad Stadium.
Tottenham have certainly become a bogey side for Guardiola’s City, with this one of the best wins of the lot.
Frank has enjoyed a dream start to life as Spurs boss since replacing Ange Postecoglou, taking six points from six to leave his side top of the embryonic Premier League table.
