Tottenham made promise to Archie Gray to stop him signing for Man City
Archie Gray chose to join Tottenham over Manchester City due to assurances over playing time, according to Sami Mokbel.
The 18-year-old joined the Lilywhites from Championship side Leeds United in the summer in a £30 million deal.
Manchester City was also interested in the teenager who was one of the most coveted assets in the second tier last season.
The report explains that sources close to the deal have revealed that the decisive factor for the youngster in picking the London club was the fact that he would be a part of the first-team squad rather than a developmental talent at City.
Tottenham have delivered on their promise to Gray
The promising talent has featured in 17 matches for the Lilywhites senior team so far.
The young midfielder has shown off his versatility in recent weeks, starting at right-back in the 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth (5 December) before moving to centre-back when Ben Davies went off injured.
He started in a makeshift centre-back partnership with Radu Dragusin for the 1-1 draw with Rangers (12 December) and the 5-0 win over Southampton (15 December).

He could start there again in the EFL Cup quarter-final against Manchester United (19 December) as he has proved a dependable option for Ange Postecoglou.
He admitted that he is happy to play in any position as long as he is getting game time in an interview with the Daily Mail [page 63, 19 December]
So far, the club have kept their promise to the player despite his varied role in the Postecoglou’s side.
