Tottenham: Harry Kane to undergo Bayern Munich medical on Friday, contract agreed until 2027 – Sky Sports Germany journalist

Tottenham ace Harry Kane will undergo a medical at Bayern Munich on Friday ahead of signing a contract until 2027, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sport Germany journalist wrote on Twitter (11 August) that Kane has finally approved the move to the Bundesliga champions after a long-running saga.

England captain Kane, who is both Tottenham’s and the Three Lions’ all-time leading goalscorer, could even make his debut against RB Leipzig on Saturday, Plettenberg has said.

The move comes after much confusion on Thursday (10 August), when it looked as though Kane might stay at Tottenham after all despite a fee being agreed.

Sky Sports reported (10 August) that Bayern will pay an initial £86million to Spurs, though add-ons could take the deal closer to the £100m mark.

Feels strange

This drama has rumbled on throughout the summer transfer window, and all the while there was a sort of sense that it might not quite get done and Tottenham fans would see Kane don their Lilywhite jersey for at least one last season.

And, yet, here we are at a stage of proceedings where there is seemingly no turning back now.

The dilemma for Kane was, do you stay in England and try and break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record? Or do you make the switch to Europe with Bayern where medals are almost a guarantee?

Certainly, domestically it is hard to imagine Kane not winning silverware, and in Thomas Tuchel he will be playing for a manager who has won the Champions League with Chelsea.

Kane could have stayed put for one more year, of course, and joined another side on a free – potentially earning a bigger signing-on fee as a result. But clearly, he has decided that if he is to win major honours then the time to try and do so is now.

tottenham

It is a monumental blow to Tottenham and new boss Ange Postecoglou to lose their star striker just two days before they start their Premier League campaign at Brentford.

But in some ways, it might be beneficial for the Australian to have some sort of closure ahead of his maiden campaign in England’s top flight.

The former Celtic boss now has to decide whether to stick with what he has and hope that the sum of the parts can collectively make up for the loss of Kane’s guarantee of goals, or whether to enter the market and reinvest a sizeable amount of the fee received for Kane on a replacement.

Time is running short on that one, though, and a suitable replacement would need to be earmarked pretty swiftly.

In other Tottenham news, John Wenham has backed the “world-class” Rodrigo Bentancur to get back to his best upon his injury return.
